Pubudu Bathiya Dassanayake is a well known name in Nepali cricket. It was Pubudu under whom Nepal qualified for ICC T20 World Cup 2014. His first tenure as national coach of Nepal was historic and very impressive. Nepali cricket is always grateful to him for his contributions.

However, his second tenure as national coach was nowhere close to what he did previously. Yes, the scenarios and circumstances were a lot different as well. Is Nepali team's recent performance the reason for your resignation ?

This was the first question Pubudu was asked by reporters in the Press Conference.

Pubudu's answer was :

"I as boarded in a special circumstance by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). I feel I have done my job. In addition, I do have my personal duties which I need to fulfill. I had submitted the resignation to CAN before Scotland tour."

To be frank, we can't deny that the resignation wasn't an unexpected one. A lot of questions were being raised on Nepal's recent performances. Not only performances in cricket field, the off-field issues are also well known to all cricket fans and stakeholders.

The clear dissatisfaction between players and CAN was on top when Pubudu joined for his second tenure. Meanwhile, groupism and internal tussle among players was getting heavy in Nepali cricket and most probably still is. Whatever the situation is, we have to respect Pubudu's decision as it is purely his personal one.

Pubudu's parting words

"I am sorry. I had to leave the Nepali national team in the middle. I have to go back home to Canada for fulfilling my personal duties. If I hadn't made this decision I would have regretted it a lot later. So I decided to resign. This decision was not easy"

His parting words says it all that Nepali cricket hasn't still settled the issues of dissatisfaction and groupism.

Pubudu requested Nepali cricket fans to support the team. He said that the team is capable of doing great in days to come.

Since February, Nepal played 36 matches under Pubudu's coaching among which Nepal won 19, lost 15 while 2 matches were tied.

SportsGuff team wishes Pubudu great days ahead and thank him for his contributions to Nepali cricket.
