Mumbai defeat Gujarat to seal the top spot in points table

Mumbai Indians continued their good form as they register fourth consecutive win in the ongoing VIVO IPL 2017. Mumbai defeated Gujarat Lions by 6 wickets at Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first in their home ground. Mitchell McClenaghan got the wicket of Dwayne Smith early to put Lions into pressure. A 80 run stand between Suresh Raina and Brendon McCullum provided some momentum for Gujarat. Suresh Raina scored 28 runs while McCullum added 64 runs with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Dinesh Karthik scored 48 runs off 26 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. McClenaghan picked 2 wickets while Malinga and Harbhajan shared one wicket each.

Mumbai in reply lost Parthiv Patel for a duck. Jos Butler and Nitish Rana added 85 runs for the second wicket to get Mumbai on track. The leading run scorer for Mumbai in this tournament, Nitish Rana completed yet another half century as he scored 53 runs off 36 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. The skipper Rohit Sharma remained notout on 40 runs while Kieron Pollard scored 39 runs with 2 fours and 3 sixes. Andrew Tye bagged 2 wickets while Munaf Patel and Praveen Kumar shared a wicket each.

Nitish Rana was named Man of the Match for his knock of 53 runs. With this win, Mumbai are now placed at the top of the points table.
