FIFA approves increase of squad to 26 players
June 24, 2022 | SportsGuff Team 1.6K ReadsFIFA has decided to allow countries to select up to 26 players in a squad. A minimum of 23 and a maximum of 26 players will be allowed in a squad for the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
"The number of players to be included on the final list has been increased to at least 23 and a maximum of 26," FIFA said in a statement.
"No more than 26 people (up to 15 substitutes and 11 team officials – one of these officials must be the team doctor) will be allowed to sit on the team bench" during World Cup games, FIFA said Thursday.
The Bureau of the FIFA Council also decided that 73rd FIFA Congress will be held in Kigali, Rwanda on 16 March 2023.
