Anil Kumble quits as Indian coach
June 20, 2017 | SportsGuff Team 930 ReadsAnil Kumble has stepped down as the Indian Cricket Team coach after India lost to Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final in England. Kumble's one-year contract expired on June 18 and despite having the option to reapply for the post, Kumble opted to quit the job.
Although, none of the BCCI top officials, who are in London for the ICC Annual Conference, were available for confirmation but it is being widely reported that Kumble has submitted his resignation. According to ESPNCricinfo,Virat Kohli met the BCCI's top brass along with Kumble in London before departing for Carribean.
The BCCI had invited fresh applications for the post of head coach days before the start of Champions Trophy. Kumble was a direct entry into the coach selection process while the others who applied for the post were Tom Moody, Richard Pybus and Lalchand Rajput among others.
Kumble was appointed head coach of the side in June 2016 by the former BCCI administration led by Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke. Rumours of a rift between Indian skipper Kohli and Kumble were reported to be behind the BCCI throwing open the position.
